Beckenhof Park — a quiet retreat just 10 minutes from Zurich’s main station and bustling city center

When the noise of the city, crowds of tourists, and constant movement become overwhelming, it’s worth heading to Beckenhof Park — located just a 10–15 minute walk from Zurich’s main streets.

There are always flowers in bloom here, it’s always peaceful, and always incredibly beautiful.

Beckenhof Park is located in the central district of Unterstrass and was originally a private garden belonging to the Beckenhof villa.

In the 18th–19th centuries, the area belonged to wealthy families and featured an estate with a garden. Later, the villa and garden became property of the city. The park was transformed into a public space while preserving its historic character. Today, it is one of the few parks in central Zurich where you can truly feel the atmosphere of an old aristocratic garden.

In spring, crocuses are among the first to bloom, covering almost the entire park. They release an incredible fragrance, especially if you sit on a bench beneath the large spreading tree in the center.

During spring, you can also see decorative iris reticulata (iridodictyum), which delight visitors with their rich, vibrant colors.

One of the park’s main highlights is its rose garden. It features many varieties of roses that are especially stunning in summer. Neat, classically styled flower beds are arranged throughout the park.

The park has a calm and tranquil atmosphere. Unlike more popular parks, there are few tourists here, creating a cozy and almost “hidden” feel — perfect for reading or simply relaxing.

The historic Beckenhof villa adds a special charm and enhances the feeling of an old European garden.

Beckenhof Park is quite compact and cozy. It’s small in size, but features well-maintained paths and lawns, making it easy to explore in just 10–15 minutes.
